A few posts back, I briefly mentioned that I had the awesome opportunity to interview celebrity trainer Jackie Warner. It was over the phone, but it was still really cool regardless. I mean, I was in shock that lil' ol' me would get to talk to a celebrity trainer! :D
To tell you the truth, I have no idea how I got on the list of potential interviewers--other than the fact that I love fitness, healthy eating with everything sweet in moderation, and just the fact that I'm a subscriber to Opensky.
Someone from Opensky contacted me last month and asked me if I would be okay with doing a phone interview with Ms. Jackie Warner, the fitness trainer who hosts the TV show called Thintervention. After giving it some thought, I was pretty excited to take the plunge!
I don't personally watch TV, and I'm even less familiar with the show.
*I can see you guys throwing a fit for the fact that I don't watch TV.* :P
The little knowledge that I have on Thintervention comes from clips that I watched on Youtube. Nevertheless, I've always known that Jackie's a crazy tough woman who will kick one's derriere into shape! :)
Her motivating and passionate attitude truly seems to inspire many people out there, and she also inspires us through her new book titled 10 Pounds in 10 Days.
I know I know...those words initially created red flags in my mind as well. Naturally, due to my past with unhealthy body image and a skewed "relationship" with food, I am always cautious about letting myself or anyone for that matter, get sucked into any type of crash dieting and an unrealistic weight loss goal. If you know me by now, hopefully you can see that I'm all about being healthy from the inside out. That entails having an understanding of healthy life-long habits that will sustain us for as long as we live--not just for the 2 weeks we have left to fit into that size 2 dress for our friend's wedding.
I am not saying that you have to take my word for how this program works; I don't know in detail how the whole thing is. But after having familiarized myself with the book just a little bit, I learned that Jackie shows the reader how to lose a certain amount of weight within a short period of time (which I don't condone and I personally would skip it altogether), but she also teaches how to stay motivated to pursue fitness through healthy eating as well as her favorite ways to work out.
So with all of that in mind, I hope you enjoy the interview! She's really a sweet woman, and I can tell she genuinely cares for people and their health. :)
1. Were you active ever since you were a child?
-I was always really active as a child and I enjoyed moving around, but I didn't get serious about fitness until I moved away from my family and started viewing it as a way to de-stress myself. I believe that kids need to gain an understanding of mind vs. muscle. If they can only conquer their minds, it would become so much easier for them to be active.
2. What has been a “weakness” for you in terms of reaching your health goals? In other words, what obstacles do you constantly face?
-It's always the time around my photo shoots! When that time is around the corner, I train for 30 days and usually about 2 times per day. But whenever I finish with those shoots and have achieved my goals, my body just wants to rest! Although my body wants to stop moving, I have found that the key to staying healthy during those times is to still keep moving lightly and with moderation. I also run a little bit just for health reasons.
3. I heard that you talk about "cardio acceleration" in your new book. Can you describe in detail exactly what “cardio acceleration” entails, and is it similar to HIIT?
-In some ways it is a little similar to HIIT, except one of the main focuses is the short periods of weight lifting. Many people are now using cardio acceleration. Through this new method, athletes can get on with their training much quicker. It's basically made up of short bursts of intense cardio in-between resistance training. For example, you can run in place for a minute, or jump rope, and then follow it with a shorter time period of lifting.
4. In your new book 10 pounds in 10 days, you offer advice on weight/fat loss, exercise regimens, as well as maintenance. Do you believe it's truly possible to lose 10 pounds of fat in 10 days? Or would most of it be water and bloating?
-I believe that it's fat and water. When you are running on low calories, you will have to increase calories every 10 days….You can’t stay on a very low calorie diet for a long period of time--because it's just not good for you. So in order to help that, there’s a guide in my new book showing you what one's realistic weight should be, and not what the individual thinks it should be. Too many people have an unrealistic image of themselves and strive to reach goals that are not healthy in the long run.
5. What are your absolutely favorite exercises?
-Oh, that's really simple. My two favorite exercises are the ones that I believe are the most beneficial for everyone's body. Those two are push-ups and squats!
6. It's pretty obvious that you have a super busy schedule! So what’s your go-to snack, especially when you’re in a rush?
-Oh man, I just love my pre-workout shake. It's really simple--it consists of ½ C frozen berries, frozen spinach, a scoop of whey isolate powder, and 1 TBSP of peanut butter. (Insert my thoughts: Nice! One of my faves too! LOL)
Overall, I just loved talking to Jackie because of her down-to-earth personality, and getting to know her as more than just a celebrity trainer and seeing what's behind all that hard work she's achieved was beyond rewarding. As we talked about some personal "life" topics, I felt honored and blessed to have such a fun opportunity!
I hope you found this interview fun and informative too!
I also wouldn't recommend anyone to just take one person's knowledge and opinion when it comes to health and fitness, but to do research and choose what's best for your life. :D
On another completely different note...!!!!
Last night, Greg and I headed over to Handel's Ice Creamery which only happens to be a 13 minute drive from our new home! Yayyyyy!
The first and last time I went to this place was for my friend's birthday in the city of Clairemont, CA. This one is located in Redondo Beach. Greg and I foresee a bit of weight gain living near Handel's. :P But that's why we have you guys to keep us accountable! Right?
Greg was taken aback by how delicious their ice cream is! Every single flavor we tried tastes exactly like the name suggests. He ordered the cake cone with the Graham Central Station flavor, which is probably one of my favorites here.
I got the Banana Cream Pie flavor on a cake cone, and it was to die for as well! The little bits of "pie crust" embedded in the ice cream make it unforgettable.
If you live in the Los Angeles area, I highly suggest you give Handel's a try.
Sophia! This is the place I was talking about....I WILL take you one of these days.
Have a great day!
