Taking Baby Outdoors

by fitforthesoul in

After countless incidents that kept me a bit wound up ever since the vehicle accident, I was beyond excited to hang out with my friend Grace this week.  Sometimes all we need is to take a little breather!  And it is a thousand times better when that includes some nature.  We met at Neighborhood Grinds located on the Redondo Beach pier, which is a newly opened coffee shop by the owners of the other location I used to frequent during my pregnancy. This extension of Neighborhood Grinds is tiny, just as I expected when there was construction going on.  There is no seating available inside, but fortunately there are a few benches by the entrance where I enjoyed a perfect cup of coffee and a donut muffin.  I also had the opportunity to talk to a mom with a newborn, pretty cool!

Now, what is a donut muffin, you ask?  Although this looks like a deformed, greasy, and less than appealing chunk of fried dough, it was actually really delicious!  It is basically a baked muffin rolled in cinnamon sugar.  It tasted somewhat like a cross between a donut and a Mexican churro.

And of course, since it was Selah’s first time at the beach a thousand multiple pictures were mandatory!  Right before Grace arrived I tried to show Selah the ocean, and she just seemed fascinated by the cool sea breeze and unfamiliar surroundings.  Grace is in love with Selah and all she wanted to do was hold her and walk her in the stroller.

We only had about an hour to talk and hang out, though.  Taking out a {almost} 2 month old anywhere can feel like such a field trip!  Packing up the diaper bag, making sure she’s fed and changed, taking her out of the car and unto the stroller, soothing her if she starts fussing, and the list just goes on.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m still so thankful that we are able to finally go places together and have mommy-daughter time!  But I would be forever thankful if I could be a little more efficient in taking Selah places.

On that same note, I’m proud to say that I finally took her grocery shopping with me, yay!

I carried her around in the Baby Bjorn that my sister used with my little nephew, and boy was it a workout!  It wasn’t too bad since Selah fell asleep right away.  Good girl!

Motherhood has so far been such a great blessing despite the fact that there are plenty of rough days with the babe.  Although this has been the biggest transition Greg and I have ever gone through, we’re quickly learning that we can’t help but fall in love with Selah more and more each day.  As cliché as it sounds, it’s so true that a parent’s heart for her child is just a small glimpse of God’s heart for us!

Selah at 7 Weeks

These pictures of Selah were taken when she was 7 weeks old (she is now 7.5), and I hope the little baby lover in you will love them as much as I do, hehe.

At first she wasn’t having it.

It’s hard to get a clear shot when she’s so squirmy!  But still a little better.

If you have experience with babies, how do you manage things when you take them out?  Any tips/strategies?

What’s more relaxing to you, the ocean or the mountains?

What has parenthood taught you?  Or what do you hope to learn when you become a parent?
