I really appreciate your thoughts and kind comments on being “under the influence”. So thank you for reading and being such great motivators in my life! Even if it means putting a smile on one single person’s face, it is always worth it in the end. If you’ve been around Fit for the Soul long enough you might have noticed that despite my love for fashion, I rarely do an outfit-of-the-day type of post. Well….come to think of it I never actually dedicate a post to my outfits, but here are some recent finds from Old Navy since they were having a huge sale this week!
I have to be honest though. I haven’t bought anything from Old Navy for the last five years or so and I attribute it to the fact that nothing fits me in the right places. This time it was different because not only did their style become more fun and evolve over the years, but almost everything was literally on sale.
Please disregard the coiled up cords in the back and everything else around it. Oh, and don’t mind my pose…it’s super tricky to take a picture of yourself trying to actually show your outfit from head to toe, especially when you’re using a book to hold up your camera, hah!
So let’s focus on the outfit, got it? This long V-neck tee is a truly versatile piece since it’s quite long and comes to the top of my thighs. It’s a basic tee with a fun, yet simple heart in the middle. In my opinion, this kind of detail is what makes this shirt so versatile!
One of my favorite patterns to look at, but rarely wear because I tend to think that it’s either hit or miss (on me), is the polka dot. I find it easy to dress up for the workplace environment or dress down with shirts like this one. If I were to wear this skirt to a formal event I would pair it with an oversized collared shirt, simply because combining big+small makes an outfit that much more interesting and balanced in my eyes.
As you can tell from this picture I love to dress Selah like a fashionista too! Haha, just kidding. Although I enjoy dressing her up in cute little outfits, oftentimes I like to have fun by putting silly little hats on her.
And that reminds me of Halloween! I never cared for Halloween, nor did I think that I’d be dressing my own child in a costume, but after Greg talked me into it we got her a Minnie Mouse outfit for a church event called Trunk-or-Treat. I can’t wait to show you her Minnie look!
Before I tune out, I’d like to share with you this super quick and simple cardio circuit. Mind you, I said simple, not easy, because nothing could be farther from the truth. I did this workout yesterday and today my muscles are burning like fire! You know…that feeling that you love and hate simultaneously when you squat to pick up your pen?
Yeah. That one.
In order to get the most out of this type of routine YOU MUST HAVE PROPER FORM AND WORK AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE! But without hurting yourself, of course. Make sure to take 30 second breaks before you transition to the next move, and don’t forget to stretch at the end of every workout to relax your muscles.
Being constantly preoccupied with my little one and not able to have my own set schedule, I make sure to get about 5 workouts per week as efficiently as possible. Two of those workouts consist of longer routines like Ballet Body, of which I shave down to about 30 minutes by omitting exercises that I don’t need as much on that given day. The remainder of the week I perform fast and efficient circuits like this Electric Cardio Circuit, which takes approximately 15 minutes.
Giving myself at least 15 minutes five times a week helps me to stay grounded, awake, and physically refreshed—not to mention the mental clarity that comes with pumping adrenaline!
I may not always do a great job with life in general, but some of the ways that I make sure to do in order to take care of myself are spending time in the Word and prayer, do something active everyday, and remain in a thankful attitude to the Lord. Without these things in my life it is much much harder to be of service to others physically and mentally! My desire is to be as optimally prepared to support other people as is in my control, and these things definitely help me reach those goals.
However, like I always say, this life isn’t about me because it belongs to God and serving those around me….but…it is so much easier said than done, is it not?! So I need to constantly remind myself that while taking care of myself through these means is essential, I have to be watchful that I don’t let them become my idols.
Sorry about that rant, guys! I guess it was on my heart and I felt led to share it.
What's your favorite pattern on an outfit?
Do you have a gym membership? Do you feel like you use it enough?
-I just canceled it yesterday because it was next to impossible to go with my new lifestyle! I’m so glad I did it though. I didn’t feel like it was justifiable to keep it when I’m enjoying workouts at home anyway.
Do you focus on uppers or lowers, or both most of the time?
-I try to do both equally, but when it comes to cardio circuits I tend to do more lowers since it gets my heart pumping faster!
How do you take care of yourself? Do you tend to focus more on the physical or spiritual/emotional aspect?
